The EnterPrize Challenge

It has been said that the business of America is business, and there is no state which demonstrates this concept quite as clearly as Texas. For some reason, the state of Texas has always been one of the economic leaders of the country. It could be the reserves of oil, proximity to the border with Mexico, or access to both oceans as well as proximity to some of the most highly populated states in the union. More likely, it is a combination of these factors that make Texas a place where you will find companies specializing in horse waterers, oil rig repair, and high end retail merchandise within close proximity of each other.

While people are more familiar with cities such as San Antonio and Dallas as far as major cities in Texas, some of the smaller centers are certainly economic forces to be reckoned with. One good example is the city of Amarillo. People who own Amarillo TX real estate know that the city has one of the most successful business climates in the state, thanks in large part to a major focus on economic development. If you want to find a job working with a force gauge or in the biotechnology industry, this is the city for you.

The Amarillo Economic Development Corporation is responsible for driving a lot of the economic diversity we see in Amarillo today. It does so through many different initiatives designed to encourage the expansion of business both big and small in the community. With a location central to the continent as well as a site through which the proposed Mexico to Canada trade route will be built, the Amarillo ECD has a lot to work with. To encourage the location of even more gold bullion bars and other concrete wealth in the city, it offers incentives such as the EnterPrize Challenge.

The EnterPrize Challenge is a competition for small business owners in the Amarillo area. It is open to both current owners of small businesses looking to expand and those thinking of starting up a new small business in the Amarillo area. Firms are judged according to the business plans they submit to the Amarillo ECD. These business plans can be for a company which designs basket strainers or one which sells them, or any number of other business enterprises. The main consideration is the creation of a viable and respectable business plan.

Winners of the competition receive cash grants to stimulate their growth, up to $75,000 each. However, even those who don't receive the grants do win when they enter the competition. When a business registers for the competition, they are admitted to free business plan workshops put on by A&M University. Even if not selected as a winner, a business which fixes industrial mixers or other equipment will still come out of the competition with a better idea of how to grow and expand a small business.
