Shop Therapy

You don't have to be a woman to love shopping in Amarillo, Texas, even though ladies casual clothing is one of the most profitable sectors of the retail industry in North America. Amarillo is a city that mixes old time Texas charm with the new and modern, so whether you're a tough guy construction worker or a gentle nanny, there are opportunities in Amarillo to brighten your hardest days with a little retail therapy. If you're new to the city or just visiting, use our guide to find the places you would like to shop.

Art, Antiques, and Souvenirs

These are the places to shop if you want to bring home something with that authentic Lubbock charm. Choose from cowboy clothes and accessories, old west crafts, Native American crafts with beautiful beadwork, leaded glass art, paintings, sculptures, furniture, or just plain kitsch. Some of the best places to go for these sorts of items are: Horse and Rider, Arden's of Amarillo, Busy Bee Crafter's Mall, the Palo Duro Indian Trading Company, and the specialty shops of historic Route 66.

Clothes

Did you get organic baby lotion on your favorite shirt? Do you need a new outfit for a wedding? Or do you just love clothes? Whatever your reason for clothes shopping, there are plenty of outfitters for men and women to browse in Amarillo. Some suggestions for women include: Chico's, Talbot, and Coldwater Creek. Meanwhile men should check out the Men's Warehouse and Jos A. Bank. Plus, Stein Mart and Raffkind's are two stores that have clothing for both genders under one roof.

Sporting Goods, Electronics, and Home Improvement

This is traditionally the domain of male shoppers, but of course women are always welcome at the auto dealer supply and the hardware store if that's where their interests lie. For electronics, the top dogs in Amarillo are Best Buy, Office Depot, and Office Max, which carry everything from cell phones to car stereos. Bed, Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, and Lowes are the super centers for home improvement and decoration in the city, and there are numerous sporting goods stores. Try Riverfields, Buck's Sporting Goods, Amarillo Athletic, and Gander Mountain for all your hunting, hiking, and sports needs.

Malls and Department Stores

Multi-specialty retailers are the best places to go if you need multiple things or you just want to browse. They're also a great gift certificate idea for everyone, since the certificates can be used for just about anything. The Westgate Mall is Amarillo's one stop shopping location. It has over 100 stores, including the big box retailers Dillard's, J.C. Penny, and Sears. Amarillo also has a Wal-Mart supercenter, a Sam's Club, a Target, and a Burlington Coat Factory which are not part of Westgate.
