If you are one of the many people considering moving to beautiful Amarillo, you are probably starting to consider what career opportunities to expect. Because of its diversity and location, you will be pleased to find that Amarillo has a wide array of choices in its job market.

Amarillo has an exciting and dynamic workforce that is healthier than most others its size. It is an entrepreneurial city, with numerous opportunities for opening small businesses or franchises. Canada to Costa Rica, people of all walks come from all over the world to live and work in Texas. Tourism is one of the city's biggest employers. Hotels, ranches, casinos and attractions fill the city and the surrounding area. People come from all over the world to experience the Southwest Amarillo-style, spurring numerous year-round job opportunities in hospitality.

Amarillo has also recently become a large technology and manufacturing corridor. It has the country's only facility for assembling and disassembling nuclear weapons, Pantex, who is one of Amarillo's largest employers. If you know your way around a circuit board, soldering iron, electrical wire, duct tape, be sure to look into the numerous opportunities there. Bell Helicopter's large assembly plant is a large area employer as are the major airlines headquartered nearby.

Owens Corning and Asarco are two large manufacturers who have frequent job openings. You could find yourself manufacturing swaged fittings or hydraulic rams for the President's Marine One helicopter, proudly made in Amarillo. With the growth of the entertainment and media industries in Texas, especially in sports, a number of new career opportunities have arisen in manufacturing and technology for specialists and skilled workers.

As such, the city has a thriving and growing High Tech sector. If you are looking for opportunities in electronic contract manufacturing, systems analysis or computer programming, you will be pleased with the opportunities in Amarillo. A major industry in the area is obviously oil. Petroleum extraction and refinement companies are huge area employers that require technical specialists.

Amarillo's largest area employers is Tyson Foods at over 3,700 staff. Other large employers are the Amarillo Independent School District, Baptist St. Anthony's Health Care System, Northwest Texas Health, the City of Amarillo, United Supermarkets and Amarillo College. For the mechanically inclined, there are numerous opportunities in area body shops and collision repair. Vancouver-style cafes and New York-style bistros line much of the entertainment district, which employs numerous residents.

The city is known to be one of the biggest meat packing centers in America. Agriculture is a large employer as over 14 million acres of farm land envelopes the city. Corn, what and cotton are the principal crops. Sorghum, hay, Silage, milk and soybean farms are also large area employers.
